Excel Physical Therapy & Sports Rehabilitation offers a wide range of services relating to health, wellness, and sports. Our office is a multi-dimensional clinic, using licensed Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapists, Massage Practitioners, and Physical Therapy Assistants, to provide top quality care to our patients.
Lisa Obergottsberger PT, DPT, MSPT - Lisa grew up in Bellingham, graduating from Sehome High School in 1988. She then went to Pullman, and graduated from Washington State University in 1992, with a Bachelor's in Biology. Lisa has been a physical therapist since 1995, graduating from the University of Colorado Health Sciences School of Physical Therapy. She has specialized in Orthopedic Outpatient Physical Therapy, with emphasis in sports injuries, neck/back/spine injuries, Vestibular Rehabilitation, and motor vehicle accidents. In 2013 Lisa completed coursework for the transitional Doctorate in Physical Therapy degree from Pacific University in OR. Classes focused on clinical reasoning and differential diagnosis of orthopedic conditions. Her research project focused on the benefits of spinal stabilization exercises in the treatment of lumbar pain and dysfunction.
Sandy Hayner PT, OCS - Sandy is a board certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist. She specializes in manual therapy to treat a variety of orthopedic problems. She has completed through Level III advanced manual therapy techniques through the North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy (NAIOMT), and is currently working towards taking the Level III exam. Although she treats a variety of musculoskeletal problems, she has a special interest in spine, lumbopelvic, and hip disorders. She also has a special interest in treating prenatal and post-partum women, dealing with back pain, and women dealing with Osteoporosis. She has taught community education classes in both areas. Originally from Portland, OR, she did her physical therapy training at the Mayo School of Health Related Science in Rochester, MN. She enjoys trail running, road biking, hiking, and cross country skiing with her husband and son.
Karrina Meacham LMP, PTA - Karrina works as a Licensed Massage Practitioner and Physical Therapist Assistant. She finds her job rewarding when she sees her patients making progress and getting back to doing things they enjoy. On days when she isn't working in the clinic she has her own private massage business which keeps her busy. In moments of free time she enjoys spending time with family, gardening, quilting, scrapbooking and traveling.
Brittney Sager PTA, A.C.E - Brittney grew up in Ferndale, and after graduating from high school, she attended Whatcom Community College and Western Washington University. She received her Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology in 2011, and shortly after became an ACE certified personal trainer. She then returned to school and became certified and licensed as a Physical Therapist Assistant in January 2014. Brittney is very excited to be part of Excel Physical Therapy & Sport Rehabilitation, and to help people gain a better quality of life through both exercise and body awareness. She has special interests in sports rehabilitation and ACL injury prevention and plans to expand her knowledge and skill in manual therapy. In her free time Brittney enjoys biking, running, hiking, playing with her puppy on the beach and spending time with her husband.
Kandace Ackelson PTA - Kandace was born and raised in Bellingham, graduating from Squalicum High School in 2005. She went on to attend WSU and WCC achieving her degree as a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant. She has been working in the field for the past 6 years and has just returned to the Bellingham area. She grew up active in sports, competing world wide in Irish Step Dancing and swimming in college. She specializes in Aquatic Therapy and has a special interest in sport-related rehabilitation. Kandace is new to Excel Physical Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation family and looks forward to making a difference in the local community. She has a passion for helping people reach success in their recovery. In her spare time, she enjoys being outside in the beautiful northwest hiking, backpacking, rollerblading, kayaking and swimming.
Janine VanderYacht PTA - Janine has lived in Bellingham since 1983. She graduated from Western Washington University with a B.S. in Community Health. She then became an ACE certified Personal Trainer and continued her education at Whatcom Community College, graduating with honors, in the first PTA program offered at Whatcom. Janine has worked her entire 23+ year PTA career in Whatcom County but is new to Excel PT and Sports Rehab. In her spare time, she loves hanging out with her grandkids, playing soccer, and teaching various dog training classes. She also competes in Canine Nose Work and dog agility.
BreAnna Kros, Billing and Office Manager - BreAnna is from Salt Lake City, Utah and has a history of medical billing and leadership as a team lead working with a large medical company based in California. She relocated to Washington to join the Excel Physical Therapy family. She loves the ocean and is attending school to study Marine Biology. BreAnna enjoys spending time with her wife and their two dogs and cat.
Katie Olinger, PT Aide/Reception - Katie is from Oregon, Ohio and recently graduated with a bachelor's of science in Athletic Training. She has recently moved to Bellingham to attend Graduate School at Western Washington University for a master's degree in Kinesiology. She divides her time between school, being a PT aide and helping cover sporting events as an Athletic Trainer. In her spare time Katie enjoys being outdoors, playing tennis, and baking.
Sawyer Warren, PT Aide/Reception - Sawyer grew up in Marysville, Washington where she graduated in 2017. Before moving to Bellingham to attend Western Washington University. She went to Everett Community College and completed many courses that put her on the path she is on today. She plans to major in accounting with a minor in biology. She hopes to receive her Doctorate in Physical Therapy and get certified as a Canine Rehabilitation Specialist. In her free time, she enjoys reading, hiking, drinking coffee, and spending time with her dog.
Leah Noble, PT Aide/Reception - Leah is new to the Excel team as of August. She graduated from WWU this past spring with a BS in Kinesiology. Leah enjoyed learning about anatomy, self care, and body awareness throughout her undergrad years. Currently applying to DPT programs around the country, Leah aspires to practice physical therapy as her life career. She enjoys being a part of a strong community and is passionate about helping guide people to feel their best, young or old! During her free time Leah loves camping, skiing, and just staying active. Besides finishing school, her ultimate goal in the next five years is to purchase and live in a travel trailer with her boyfriend of four years and their two cats.
Christoph Winter, PT Aide/Reception - Chris graduated from Western Washington University in 2017 with a degree in Linguistics and German. After spending a year teaching English to high school students in Austria, he moved back to Bellingham and decided to begin pursuing a career as a physical therapy assistant. In his free time, Chris likes to swim, ride his road bike, and play bluegrass guitar.
Essential Massage and Bodywork
Sara Weden, LMP- Sara is a Professional Licensed Massage Practitioner and owner of Essential Massage and Bodywork. Sara graduated from the Massage Pratitioner Program at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham, WA in June of 2015. She is a member of the American Massage Therapy Association and volunteers at PeaceHealth St. Joseph's Cancer Center offering massage therapy to cancer patients during treatment and recovery. Sara holds a Master in Business from the University of Phoenix and is also a business owner at a local engineering company in Whatcom County.
